Biographical Sketch

Andreas Fickers: born 03.05.1971 in St.Vith / Belgium Study: History, Philosophy & Sociology at the Universities of Aachen (G) and Reims (F); 1997: M.A.; 2002: PhD Work experience: 1994-95: a two practical course at the Deutsches Museum / Munich 1996-97: research-fellow at the Deutsches Museum / Bonn 1998-1999: Assistant at the Chair of History of Technology / Aachen 2000-2002: Assistant at the Chair of Contemporary History / Aachen Since January 2003: Assistant Professor on Television History / University of Utrecht (NL) Main scholarly interests: History of technology (especially telecommunication technologies); Media history, Cultural history. Main publications: Der „Transistor“ als technisches und kulturelles Phänomen. Die Transistorisierung der Radio- und Fernsehempfänger in der deutschen Rundfunkindustrie von 1955-1965, GNT-Verlag, Bassum 1998. - „Politique de la grandeur“ versus „Made in Germany“. Die Analyse der PAL-SECAM-Farbfernsehkontroverse als Beispiel einer politischen Kulturgeschichte der Technik, (Dissertation University Aachen 2002), will be published in the series „Pariser Historische Studien“ of the German Historical Institute in Paris, Oldenbourg Verlag 2004.
