Biographical SketchVictor Iancu is professor of the history of language and dialectology at the North University of Baia Mare. He has been UNESCO Chair for Human Rights and Democracy, Romania, Secretary-General of the Romanian National Commission for UNESCO and later, Vice-Rector at the North University of Baia Mare. He also founded the European Master Programme in Human Rights and Democratization at North University, Baia Mare In his academic career, he has been visiting professor (holder of the Romanian language lectorate) at leading universities in Italy, Hungary and Cuba. His current main research interests relate to the history of Romanian communities abroad, ethnicity, the history of language. His most important publications are: Palatalizarea consoanelor in limba romana ( 1975), Limbaj cotidian si rostire literara (1977), Cum vorbesc romanii din Ungaria, (Budapesta, COMP-Press,1994), Istoria limbii romane. Compendiu, (1996), Limba si rostire romaneasca, ieri si azi, (1996).
