Biographical SketchErik van der Vleuten (1968) works at the Department for History, Philosophy and Technology Studies (HPTS), Eindhoven University of Technology. He wrote a Ph.D. dissertation on the electrification of Denmark (Aarhus University, Denmark 1998) and since then worked on contemporary Dutch infrastructure history and the Eindhoven-based programme Transnational infrastructures and the rise of contemporary Europe (www.tie-project.nl, project leader Johan Schot). From 1999 he participated in Tensions of Europe. In its first phase he coordinated (with Arne Kaijser) the theme ‘Networking Europe’ (1999-2005) In its second phase he was a member of the ToE Transition Committee. In its third phase he participates in the ESF funded Inventing Europe programme, co-organizing its Collaborative Research Project on Critical Infrastructures (EUROCRIT, Project Leader Arne Kaijser) and leading the subproject on electricity infrastructures. He is a member of the Tensions of Europe Advisory Board. Erik co-edited (with Arne Kaijser) Networking Europe. Transnational infrastructures and the shaping of Europe, 1850-2000 (Science History Publications, 2006) and (with Geert Verbong) Networked Nation.
