Biographical SketchKarin Bijsterveld is historian and professor at the Technology & Society Studies Department, Maastricht University, The Netherlands, and director of the Netherlands Graduate Research School WTMC (Science, Technology & Modern Culture). With Wiebe E. Bijker she is co-author of ‘Women Walking Through Plans’ (Technology and Culture 2000, Usher Prize 2002). Her recent work focuses on the history of sound and noise, and on technology and music, about which she has published in Social Studies of Science (2001, and with Marten Schulp, 2004), Technology and Music in the 20th Century (ed. Hans-Joachim Braun, Johns Hopkins U.P., 2002), Technology and Culture (with Trevor Pinch, 2003), Osiris (2003), The Auditory Culture Reader (ed. Michael Bull & Les Back, Berg Publishers, 2003), and Historical Journal of Film, Radio and Interdisciplinary Science Reviews (2006).
