Biographical Sketch
His MA project will be devoted to the role and conception of nature in the industrialization and urban development of the Kola Peninsula. The establishment of the Laplandskii zapovednik (Lapland nature reserve) coincided with the commencement of the Stalinist industrialization in this area, specifically with the development of mining. This situation leads one to ask how planners and scientists viewed the interaction between nature and the modern world that they were constructing in this tropical arctic region. Searching for these answers today might enlighten our understanding of the environmental impact that the mining has had on the Kola Peninsula during the 20th century.
